Overview

Compression Reducing Tee C X C X C - 28Mm X 28Mm X 22Mm

The Compression Reducing Tee - 28mm x 28mm x 22mm (Product Code: C1118) is a heavy-duty brass fitting used to branch off a 22mm line from a 28mm main circuit. In this configuration, the two inline ends are 28mm, while the center branch is reduced to 22mm.

This is a common fitting in larger domestic or light commercial heating systems where 28mm primary flow and return pipes need to feed a 22mm sub-circuit or a large hot water cylinder.

Key Technical Specifications

Size: 28mm x 28mm x 22mm (End x End x Branch).

Type: Branch Reducing Tee (Compression).

Material: High-quality Brass.

Jointing: Mechanical compression (includes nuts and brass olives).

Pressure Rating: Typically rated up to 16 Bar at 30°C.

Compliance: Manufactured to BS EN 1254-2.

Common Use Cases

Thermal Stores: Connecting 28mm boiler flow/return pipes to a 22mm heating zone.

High-Flow Systems: Breaking into a 28mm cold water main to supply a high-output unvented cylinder via a 22mm feed.

Commercial Plant Rooms: Reducing the main header pipework down to individual appliance or manifold feeds.

Installation Best Practices

Preparation: Ensure the 28mm and 22mm pipes are cut square and deburred. 28mm pipe can be difficult to cut straight with a hacksaw; a large pipe cutter is highly recommended.

Insertion: The pipe must be pushed fully past the olive and into the internal shoulder of the tee. Failure to do so can result in the pipe "blowing out" under pressure.

Tightening: 28mm compression fittings require significant torque. Tighten the 28mm nuts approximately 1 to 1.25 turns after hand-tight. The 22mm branch requires approximately 3/4 to 1 full turn.

No Heat: Ideal for use in roof spaces or cupboards where using a blowtorch on large-diameter copper is hazardous or difficult due to heat dissipation.
