Overview

Fusible Handwheel 3/8" BSP Internal Taper Thread 10 mm Connector

The Fusible Handwheel Fire Valve is a critical safety component for domestic and commercial oil-fired heating systems. Designed to be installed in the oil supply line, this valve acts as an automatic shut-off in the event of a fire. The handwheel contains a fusible link rated at 155°F (approx. 68°C); if the ambient temperature reaches this threshold, the link melts, and the spring-loaded valve snaps shut, instantly cutting off the fuel supply to the burner.

This valve features a 10mm compression fitting for the incoming oil line and a 3/8" BSP threaded outlet, making it compatible with standard oil hoses and burner inlets.

Key Features and Specifications

Size: 10mm Compression x 3/4" BSP (Male/Female depending on specific orientation, typically 3/8" for burner connection).

Activation Temperature: 155°F (68°C) – The industry standard for oil-fire safety.

Material: Robust brass body with a heat-sensitive fusible alloy in the handwheel.

Operation: Manual "Open/Close" override via the handwheel, with automatic thermal shut-off.

Compliance: Meets OFTEC requirements for fire safety in oil-burning installations.

Safety Feature: Prevents the oil tank from feeding a fire in the boiler room or kitchen.

Common Applications

Oil Boiler Supply: Installed directly before the flexible burner hose on kerosene or gas oil systems.

Internal Oil Lines: Required by building regulations when an oil supply pipe enters a building.

Fire Safety Upgrades: Replacing old-style manual gate valves with thermally activated shut-offs to meet current insurance and safety standards.

Installation Guidelines

Positioning: The valve should be installed where it can effectively sense the heat from a potential boiler fire, typically just outside the boiler casing or where the fuel line enters the appliance room.

Direction: Ensure the flow arrow on the valve body points toward the burner.

Replacement: If the valve has been activated by heat, the entire handwheel or valve unit must be replaced; it cannot be reset once the fusible link has melted.

Essential Companion Products

Oil Line: 10mm Soft Copper Oil Pipe (Plastic coated).

Connection: 10mm x 3/8" Flexible Oil Burner Hose

Filtration: Oil Filter with 10mm/3/8" Connections

Sealing: Heldite Jointing Compound (Specifically for oil-resistant seals).
