Overview

UFH Edge Insulation - 25m x 100mm x 8mm

Edge Insulation Tape (also known as Perimeter Strip) is a vital component in every "wet" underfloor heating installation. It is installed around the entire perimeter of the room—against every wall and around any fixed vertical structures like pillars—before the floor screed is poured.

Its primary function is twofold: it acts as an expansion gap to prevent the heated floor from cracking the walls or the screed itself, and it provides a thermal break to stop heat from escaping into the building's structure.

Key Features and Specifications

Dimensions: 100mm high x 8mm thick x 25m roll length.

Material: Closed-cell polyethylene foam (non-absorbent and rot-proof).

Thickness: 8mm (Industry standard for providing sufficient expansion room for sand/cement and liquid screeds).

Function: Absorbs the thermal expansion of the floor slab as it heats up.

Design: Often features a pre-scored "tear-off" strip for easy trimming once the floor finish (tiles, wood, or carpet) has been laid.

Why is Edge Insulation Essential?

Prevents Cracking: Without this 8mm gap, the force exerted by the expanding heated screed can cause significant structural damage to internal walls or cause the floor itself to "heave" and crack.

Thermal Isolation: It prevents "thermal bridging," ensuring that the heat from your 16mm PERT-AL-PERT pipe stays in the floor slab rather than being conducted into the cold external walls.

Acoustic Dampening: Helps reduce the transmission of impact noise from the floor to the walls.

Installation Best Practices

Timing: Install the edge tape before you lay your Castellated Panels or insulation boards.

Fixing: Use a staple gun or adhesive to secure the tape to the wall. It must be higher than the finished floor level; you will trim the excess later.

Gaiter/Apron: Many edge strips come with a plastic "apron" or flange. This should be laid over the top of your floor insulation/panels to prevent liquid screed from leaking down behind the insulation.

Corners: Ensure the tape is pushed firmly into corners to maintain a consistent 8mm gap. Do not pull it tight across corners.

Essential Companion Products

Pipework: UFH 100m x 16mm PERT-AL-PERT Coil

Fixings: 60mm UFH Clips - Box of 300

Connectors: Keyplumb 16mm Eurocone Adaptors

Pump Set: Grundfos UPM3 Flex 25-70 130 Pump

Specialist Support and Local Collection

We stock 25m and 50m rolls of edge insulation for immediate collection. For a standard room, one or two rolls are usually sufficient, but always measure the full perimeter of the room to be sure.

Visit our trade counter at 61 Fullers Road, E18 2QB to pick up your perimeter strip. Our team can also provide advice on the best way to secure the tape to different wall types (brick, block, or plasterboard).
