Overview

Press Fit Gas 90Deg Street Elbow - 22Mm

The 22mm Press-Fit Gas 90 Street Elbow is a high-performance copper fitting designed for rapid, flame-free installation of domestic and commercial gas services. As a "Street" elbow, it features one female press-fit socket and one male spigot end, allowing it to be inserted directly into another 22mm press-fit fitting.

This fitting is specifically engineered for gas applications and is fitted with a high-visibility yellow HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) O-ring. This seal is resistant to the chemical properties of natural gas and LPG, ensuring a lifetime of leak-free service when correctly pressed.

Key Features and Specifications

Size: 22mm Socket x 22mm Male Spigot.

Angle: 90 (Quarter Bend).

Identification: Features a prominent yellow mark or yellow O-ring to signify its approval for gas use (not suitable for potable water).

Material: High-grade copper to BS EN 1057 standards.

Joint Type: Press-Fit (M-profile or V-profile compatible, depending on the specific brand).

Security: Features a "Leak Before Press" design, allowing installers to easily identify unpressed joints during a dry pressure test.

Safety: Eliminates the need for "hot works" permits and open flames, making it ideal for high-risk areas or timber-frame constructions.

Common Applications

Meter Connections: Making tight 90-degree turns directly from the gas meter outlet or governor.

Boiler Gas Feeds: Transitioning 22mm gas supply pipework into the boiler’s gas isolation valve in restricted spaces.

Manifold Construction: Creating compact gas distribution headers for multiple appliances.

Retrofits: Ideal for working in finished properties where a blowtorch could damage paintwork, wallpaper, or furnishings.

Installation Requirements

Tooling: Requires a calibrated press tool with the correct size (22mm) and profile (usually V-profile) jaws.

Preparation: Pipe must be cut square and thoroughly deburred internally and externally to avoid damaging the yellow HNBR seal upon insertion.

Marking: Always mark the insertion depth on the pipe to ensure the fitting is fully seated before pressing.

Compliance: Installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer in accordance with UK building regulations.

Essential Companion Products

Pipework: 22mm R250 Half-Hard Copper Pipe.

Lubricant: Pipe lubricant is generally not required for press-fit, but ensure the O-ring is clean and seated.

Testing: Gas Leak Detection Spray and a U-Gauge or Electronic Pressure Tester.

Identification: Yellow "Gas" Warning Tape and Pipe Identification Labels.
