Overview

Solvent Weld Waste 40Mm Access Plug - Black

The 40mm Solvent Weld Access Plug (also known as a rodding eye or clean-out plug) is a vital maintenance component for domestic and commercial waste systems. It features a solvent weld socket that bonds permanently to 40mm waste pipe, providing a removable, threaded cap that allows for easy access to the internal pipework.
This fitting is essential for clearing blockages and inspecting the system without having to dismantle the entire pipe run. The Black finish is UV-stabilized, making it suitable for both internal installations and external waste stacks.

Key Features and Specifications

Size: 40mm (Standard UK size for kitchen sinks, showers, and appliance waste).

Color: Black (UV-resistant, matches black soil and waste systems).

Material: High-impact ABS or PVC-mu.

Joint Type: Solvent Weld Socket x Threaded Removable Cap.

Access: The cap features a knurled or hexagonal edge for easy removal by hand or with a wrench.

Seal: Usually includes an internal rubber O-ring or a tapered thread to ensure a watertight and airtight seal when closed.

Durability: Resistant to boiling water and common household chemicals.

Common Applications

Rodding Points: Installed at the end of long horizontal pipe runs or near sharp bends where debris is likely to collect.

Kitchen Waste: Positioned behind kitchen units to allow for clearing of grease and food build-up in sink waste lines.

External Stacks: Used on the exterior of a building as a clean-out point before the waste pipe enters the main 110mm soil stack.

Maintenance: Ideal for commercial environments where regular pipe inspection and cleaning are required.

Installation Best Practices

Placement: Always install the access plug in a location that will remain accessible after the final building works (e.g., avoid tiling over it or placing it behind permanent fixtures).

Preparation: Clean the pipe end and the internal socket of the plug with a dedicated pipe cleaner before applying solvent cement.

Welding: Apply an even layer of solvent cement and push the pipe fully into the socket.

Cap Maintenance: Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the threads of the removable cap to ensure it remains easy to unscrew after years of service.

Essential Companion Products

Adhesive: Solvent Cement.

Cleaner: Pipe Cleaning Fluid.

Pipework: 40mm Solvent Weld Waste Pipe (Black).

Lubricant: Silicone Grease (for the threaded cap).

Tooling: 40mm Pipe Clips and a fine-toothed hacksaw.
