Overview
Compression Wallplate Elbow 15Mm X 1/2''
The 15mm x 1/2" Compression Wallplate Elbow (also known as a Wingback Elbow) is a specialized brass fitting used to provide a secure, fixed connection point for taps and valves through a wall or timber frame. It features a 15mm compression inlet for copper or plastic pipework and a 1/2" BSP female threaded outlet.
The defining feature of this fitting is the integrated fixing flange (the "wings"), which contains pre-drilled holes. This allows the elbow to be screwed directly to a masonry wall, a wooden patress, or a stud-wall noggin, ensuring that the plumbing remains rock-steady when a tap is turned on or off.
Key Features and Specifications
Size: 15mm Compression x 1/2" BSP Female Thread.
Material: Heavy-duty forged brass for strength and corrosion resistance.
Joint Type: Compression (includes nut and brass olive) x Internal Thread.
Fixing: Three-hole or two-hole integrated flange for secure wall mounting.
Compatibility: Suitable for hot and cold water systems, as well as central heating.
Standards: Manufactured to comply with standard UK plumbing dimensions.
Common Applications
Outside Taps: The standard fitting used on an external wall to provide a 1/2" threaded point for a garden hose tap.
Kitchen Taps: Used behind kitchen units to provide a fixed point for flexible tap connectors.
Exposed Shower Valves: Mounting to a wall to provide the threaded connection points for bar-style thermostatic shower valves.
Commercial Washrooms: Providing a solid mounting point for pillar taps or wall-mounted drinking fountains.
Installation Best Practices
Mounting: Use corrosion-resistant screws (such as stainless steel or brass) when fixing the elbow, especially for outdoor installations, to prevent rust bleeding down the wall.
Thread Sealing: When screwing a tap into the 1/2" female thread, use a generous amount of PTFE tape or a high-quality jointing compound to ensure a watertight seal.
Pipe Support: If installing with 15mm plastic pipe, you must use a 15mm pipe insert to ensure the compression joint remains secure over time.
Access: If used for an outside tap, ensure the pipework feeding the elbow includes an internal isolation valve and a drain-off cock for winter frost protection.
